J. Ashton Moore - "Training Techniques for the Vaulting Horse"
Date: Saturday and Sunday, November 8-9, 2003

 Description:
Jeff Moore has developed training techniques specifically for vaulting horses.  He uses a combination of voice commands, body language, specific uses of the whip, dressage instruction under saddle, and work in hand to help longuers and horse trainers correctly train the vaulting horse. This seminar will demonstrate methods to:

    *   IMPROVE  COMMUNICATION
    *   IMPROVE  RESPONSIVENESS
    *   IMPROVE  CORRECTNESS
    *   IMPROVE  PERFORMANCE

FEE:  $80.00  for two days (with or without bringing a horse)
             $50.00 for one day.
HORSES:  We need 6 horses and their handlers (longeurs/riders) for teaching purposes.  Trainers will receive instruction on methods for improving their training techniques.  All horse/handler pairs must be able to participate both days.
JUDGE TRAINING HOURS: This seminar qualifies for Judges and Apprentice training hours. This seminar is highly recommended for all Judges and Apprentices.

Directions -
 - From I-81, take exit 118B to Blacksburg/VA Tech.
 - Follow Route 460 West to Blacksburg, stay to the right at Blacksburg to take the 460 Bypass, sign says "Bluefield, Pearisburg".
 - Take the Prices Fork Road, "Downtown" exit.  At fourth stoplight go left on Main Street.  Main will be a four lane road, follow it through two stoplights and when Main turns into a two lane road, go down the hill.
 - Take Mt. Tabor Road, the first road going only to your right after Main turns two lane, for 2.6 miles. Turn left on Dori Del Hills, a gravel road. IT LOOKS LIKE A FARM!!  There is a four board natural rail fence across the front of the farm and up both sides of the drive.  Follow road to the end of the driveway for the barn.
 - Please drive very slowly on the driveway!  The barn phone number is 540-951-8545.

Please note these requests from the facility:

"Please ask participants not to bring dogs with them unless they are comfortable with the dogs staying in their automobile/trailer.  We have dogs who live here on the farm that are not eager to make new friends."
"Anyone wanting to stay in their trailer should make arrangements directly with us.  We do not have camper hookups but will do our best to make accommodations."
"Please notify participants that this is a NO SMOKING facility (yes, that includes the parking lot).  Folks who smoke are welcome to do so only in the confines of their own automobile."

 J. Ashton Moore
The Director for this course is J. Ashton Moore of San Juan Bautista, CA.  Mr. Moore was co-founder of the American Vaulting Association and serves both as the AVA Technical Advisor and as the USET Vice-President of Vaulting .  Mr. Moore is an FEI "O" Vaulting Judge, USDF "I" Judge, Judge Trainer in both Dressage and Vaulting, and co-Founder of the Dutch Warmblood studbook in North America.

 Stabling Information
Please note the following important points:
The facility will require a ten day health certificate on each incoming horse (even those coming in-state).
Stall fee is $20 per day/night.  Staff will clean the stalls unless owners request them not to.  
Staff is also available to feed horses (@ 7:30 am and 4 pm) if requested.  
Barn hours are 8:30 am to 9 pm - you must arrange to arrive within these hours!  We will be asking you to state an anticipated arrival time so that someone will be on hand to meet you.
